The Buzz from Buzzelli: Pittsburgh’s Top To Do’s (3/23 – 3/26)

By Michael “Buzz” Buzzelli, ‘Burgh Vivant

Nicer Things

Heidi Nagle is returns with her (mostly) one woman show, “This is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things.” Nagle, founding member of the sketch comedy troupe, “The Harvey Wallbangers,” explores the human psyche, discusses familial embarrassments and her intense love of Pittsburgh in the show. It’s sure to be a hoot.  Find her at the Carnegie Stage – Off The Wall, 25 W. Main Street, Carnegie, PA 15106 For more information, click here.

Fathers and Sons

Some of Pittsburgh’s funniest standups happen to be related. Friday, March 24 see “Collier and Collier.” Father, Gene Collier, and son, Sean Collier, perform live comedy, share anecdotes and discuss movies, sports and more. There are no unfunny dad jokes at this show. Come see them at the Oaks Theater, 310 Allegheny River Blvd., Oakmont, PA 15139. For more information, click here.

Mother Loving Show

PICT is bringing Sophocles’ “Oedipus Rex” back to the stage. An ancient prophecy wreaks havoc in Thebes bringing assorted troubles to the royal family (the world’s most tight-knit family, to be sure). Explore fate and free will at the Union Project, 801 N. Negley Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15206. For more information, click here.

Dancing before Dark

Too tired to make it to midnight?  Go to “In Bed by Ten Dance Party” on March 25 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Not only can you make it home before you have to pay the sitter overtime, you can raise money for THRIVE Southwest PA, an organization that works with schools to create positive environments for LGBTQ kids.  Dance the early evening away at Spirit, 242 51st Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15201. For more information, click here.

Unfiltered

Spend Sunday, March 26 on the D-List with “Kathy Griffin’s Celebrity Run-In Tour.” The comedian will dish the dirt on celebrities she’s met over the years and the outrageous, charming and sometimes-bizarre anecdotes only she can tell about them. Laugh the evening away at the Benedum Center, 237 7th Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15222. For more information, click here.

A sixth thing…

Bunny Hop

Extend your weekend to Monday with a special benefit performance of Nassim Soleimanpour’s “White Rabbit, Red Rabbit.” Monteze Freeland goes up on stage and gets a copy of the script for the first time. Anything can happen in this bizarre theatrical experience.  Let the story unfold in front of you for the audience and the actor. It’s at Pittsburgh Playwrights Theatre, 937 Liberty Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15222. For tickets and additional information, click here.
